Chapman Achievement Award

Funded through the Ferdinand Edward Chapman Endowment Fund. Achievement Bursaries recognize undergraduate students who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to the pursuit of excellence in their endeavours. Fine arts, athletics, and other areas where individual expression becomes public are recognized through these bursaries. Recipients must have demonstrated financial need and a minimum 3.5 sessional grade point average for students continuing at or transferring to UVic, or a 70% admission average for students commencing postondary studies for the first time. The Faculty of Fine Arts will distribute application forms to prospective students, who will complete and return them to Student Awards & Financial Aid. Deadline to return applications changes on a yearly basis.
Gerald G. and Lottie Few Achievement Award

Funded through the Gerald G. and Lottie Few Endowment Fund. THE UNIVERSITY OF VICTORIA REVUE AWARDS
Three awards of $100 each are given to students in the Department of Theatre who have made outstanding contributions to the performances of on-campus productions.

Lynne Conway-Wilson Memorial Bursary

One or more bursaries are awarded to promising students in Theatre who are continuing at the University of Victoria.
Lawrence Eastick Bursary
Value: $250 | Number: 1
A bursary of $250 is awarded to a student in the Department of Theatre who displays an interest in the technical aspects of theatre production and is continuing in theatre at the University of Victoria.
The Finlayson Bursary
Value: $500 | Number: 1
A bursary of $500 made available by Mr. Albert Winkel of Victoria, is offered to a second or third year student in the Department of Theatre who can show evidence of financial need and outstanding ability in the area of technical theatre and who is continuing studies in the department.
Sheryl Fjellgaard Bursary in Theatre
Value: $1000 | Number: 1
A bursary of $1000 is awarded to a student in Theatre. Preference will be given to a student in the Acting or Theatre/Writing Option.
Motion Picture Technicians Union Local 891 Bursary
Value: $1,000 | Number: Varies
A total of $1,000 is awarded one or more students in the Department of Theatre who can demonstrate financial need.
The Phoenix Theatre Bursary

An award will be made annually to two or more students in the Department of Theatre. Academic standing, contribution to the Department's activities, and the financial circumstances of the student will be considered.
The Peter L. Smith Bursary in Theatre History

One or more bursaries are awarded to students who display ability in Theatre History and who are continuing at the University of Victoria.
The W.D. West Alumni Bursary Fund

Bursaries from this fund are to be awarded annually to continuing students primarily according to need. Preference will be given to students specialising in Design. Recipients should have demonstrated promise, industry and a reasonable academic standard.

Unless otherwise indicated, recipients are selected by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendations of the Department of Theatre.
These scholarships are governed by the general regulations for scholarships, medals and prizes.
Scholarships marked with an asterisk (*) are administered by the University of Victoria Foundation.
* VALENTINE BARROW SCHOLARSHIP IN THEATRE HISTORY
A scholarship is awarded to a student entering fourth year with an outstanding average in any 3.0 units of upper-level
theatre history courses. A maximum of 1.5 units of directed studies in theatre history may be included in the total of 3.0
units.
* CLIO BOOK PRIZE IN THEATRE HISTORY
A book prize is awarded to a student who achieves the highest aggregate GPA in the two required second year theatre
history courses.
* THE MURIEL CONWAY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship of $1075 is awarded to a promising student in Theatre who is continuing at the University of Victoria. This
award was established by the family and friends of Muriel Conway to honour her dedication as a patron of theatre, especially the Malvern Festival in England, the Ottawa Little Theatre, and the Victoria Bastion Theatre.
* CRESTVIEW-CHELSEA THEATRE AWARD
An award of $250 is offered at the discretion of the Department of Theatre to a promising and deserving student in Theatre who is continuing at the University of Victoria.
* GWLADYS AND GWEN DOWNES SCHOLARSHIP IN THEATRE
One or more scholarships are awarded to students in the BFA Theatre Major Program with preference to students in the Acting specialty option.
* KATHERINE E. AND MURRAY D. EDWARDS SCHOLARSHIP IN THEATRE
A scholarship is awarded to a student in the Department of Theatre. Preference will be given to a student with aptitude for, and an interest in set and/or costume design or construction.
* THE TRISH GRAINGE SCHOLARSHIP
One or two scholarships, to a total value of $675 are awarded to promising students who are continuing studies in acting
and voice at the University of Victoria or any other public university in British Columbia. The award(s) is presented in honour of Trish Grainge, a reader of audio books for the blind, by Mrs. Ivy B. (Pat) Bevan.
* THE ELISABETH JACKSON SCHOLARSHIP IN THEATRE
A scholarship of $875 is awarded to a third year female student with high academic standing who is continuing in the
Theatre program at the University and who, in the opinion of the Department, displays outstanding promise in acting.
* NIGEL LEACH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship is awarded to a student who has completed third year and is entering fourth year Acting in the Theatre program and who displays outstanding promise in Shakespearean interpretation.
THOMAS AND ELIZABETH MAYNE SCHOLARSHIP IN THEATRE
One or more scholarships are awarded to academically outstanding undergraduate students in their 3rd or 4th year of the BFA Program in Theatre. Preference will be given to any of the following options: Acting, Applied Theatre, Directing, Theatre History, Theatre Writing.
* THE BARBARA McINTYRE SCHOLARSHIP IN THEATRE
A scholarship of $1175 is awarded to a third or fourth year student who, in the opinion of the Department of Theatre,
displays outstanding ability in the area of theatre in education. If there is no theatre in education candidate, the award may go to a student in any branch of theatre work. A third year student must use the scholarship to complete fourth year studies at the University of Victoria Theatre Department; a fourth year student is allowed the option of furthering studies at a recognized school of theatre or university.
MICHAEL MELOCHE SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship of $1,000 is awarded to a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year undergraduate student studying Production or Design in the Department of Theatre.
* BENTLEY NICHVOLODOFF MEMORIAL BOOK PRIZE
A book prize is awarded to the student with the highest aggregate grade in Theatre 210 and Theatre 211.
* OPENING NIGHT SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship is awarded to a second year theatre student with a high academic standing in first and second year theatre courses, who has distinguished her/himself in a departmental production(s) and who is continuing in the Theatre program.
* KEITH PROVOST MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP IN THEATRE
A scholarship is awarded to a 2nd or 3rd year student in the Bachelor of Fine Arts Program in the Department of Theatre. Preference will be given to a student in the acting option.
* ROYAL VICTORIAN FASHION SOCIETY COSTUME DESIGN SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship of $500 is awarded to an academically outstanding undergraduate or graduate student in the Department of Theatre specializing in costume design.
* THE DOROTHY SOMERSET SCHOLARSHIP IN THEATRE
A scholarship of $250, made available by Miss Rivkah Isaacs of Victoria, is awarded to the third or fourth year student who, in the opinion of the Department of Theatre, displays outstanding talent and devotion to any branch of theatre work. A third year student must use the scholarship to complete fourth year studies at the University of Victoria Theatre Department; a fourth year student is allowed the option of furthering studies at a recognized school of theatre, such as the National Theatre School or the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
* AUDREY ST. DENYS and M.E. JOHNSON SCHOLARSHIPS
One or more scholarships are awarded to undergraduate or graduate students in Faculty of Fine Arts.
* ESMÉ WALKER SCHOLARSHIP
One or more scholarships are awarded to academically outstanding undergraduate students in the Department of Theatre.
