Bursaries
- Students may be considered for the following bursaries by completing the general bursary application. Only one application is necessary to be considered for all bursaries.
The Arthur C. Abrahamson Memorial Bursaries
Value: $200 | Number: 2
Two bursaries of $200 each will be awarded to students in the Distance Education Bachelor of Social Work Program. The intent of the bursaries is to assist students who encounter severe financial difficulties in returning to full or part-time studies. The bursaries are awarded in memory of Arthur C. (Art) Abrahamson who, as a consultant to the School of Social Work in its early years, was a source of immense help to students and faculty.
The Dianne Bourne Memorial Bursary

A bursary is offered to a full or part-time student admitted to the School of Social Work, who is in or is planning a career in child welfare practice in northern British Columbia.
Herta Hartmanshenn Bursary in Social Work
Value: Varies | Number: Two
One undergraduate bursary and one graduate bursary are awarded to single parents registered in degree programs in Social Work. Undergraduate students must be registered in a minimum of 9.0 units for study and Graduate students must be registered with the Faculty of Graduate Studies on a full time basis for winter session. If there is no qualifying graduate student in a particular year, the second award will be given to a qualifying Undergraduate student.
William Wilbert Ingot Bursary

One or more bursaries are awarded to students entering or continuing in the School of Social Work.
Sandra Macdonald-Dohm Bursary
Value: $300 | Number: 1
A bursary of $300 is awarded to a mature female single parent student entering the Bachelor of Social Work Program.
Nestlé Canada Inc. Bursary
Value: $1500 | Number: 1
A bursary of $1,500 is awarded to an undergraduate student in the School of Social Work.
The Jean Marie Sherwin Bursary in Social Work
Value: $500 | Number: 1
A bursary of $500 is awarded to a student in the School of Social Work who has completed third year, is proceeding to fourth year and whose need for financial aid is such that the usual sources of assistance are not sufficient. Preference will be given to students with family responsibilities and whose permanent residence is outside Greater Victoria.
Trudy Usher Bursary

One or more bursaries are awarded to Aboriginal students who are entering the School of Social Work at the University of Victoria.
The Roy E. L. Watson Bursaries in Social Work
Value: Varies | Number: 3
Three undergraduate bursaries and one graduate bursary are awarded to single parents registered in degree programs in Social Work. Undergraduate students must be taking a minimum of 9 units of study and graduate students must be registered with the Faculty of Graduate Studies on a full-time basis for the Winter session. If there is no qualifying graduate student in a particular year, the fourth award will be given to a qualifying undergraduate student. In the case of the graduate award, selection will be made by Student Financial Aid Services on the recommendation of the School of Social Work.

Applications from students are NOT required for scholarships listed in this section.
Unless otherwise indicated, recipients are selected by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendations of the School of Social Work.
These scholarships are governed by the general regulations for scholarships, medals and prizes.
Scholarships marked with an asterisk (*) are administered by the University of Victoria Foundation.
* JEAN & ARCHIE BAIN SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship is awarded to a student entering fourth year in the School of Social Work. Preference will be given to a student who has a special interest in child and family welfare and/or early childhood prevention programs.
CERTIFICATE OF OUTSTANDING ACADEMIC DISTINCTION IN THE FACULTY OF HUMAN AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT
A certificate of distinction and a prize of $300 is awarded to the student in the Faculty of Human and Social Development registered for the BA, BCYC, B.Sc, BSN or BSW degree who stands at the head of the graduating class on the basis of academic graduating average.
BRITISH COLUMBIA ASSOCIATION OF SOCIAL WORKERS PRIZE
A prize of two hundred fifty dollars ($250) is awarded to an outstanding student who has completed the first year of the
program in the School of Social Work. Students must be Student Members of BCASW in good standing to be eligible.
* THE ROBERT S. EVANS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarships are awarded to academically outstanding students who intend to continue their studies at the University of Victoria as follows:
a. One scholarship to a student in each of the programs: Child and Youth Care, Nursing and Social Work, on the recommendation of the respective Directors;
b. One scholarship to a student who has completed the qualifying 300-level courses for an Honours or Major program in Astronomy;
c. Two scholarships for award within the student body at large. If no suitable candidates can be found in categories (a) or (b), additional awards can be made in category (c).
* HERTA HARTMANSHENN SCHOLARSHIPS IN SOCIAL WORK
Two or more scholarships are awarded to students entering fourth year in the School of Social Work.
* ANITA ALLARDICE LANCASTER SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship of $2050 is awarded to a full time student who is entering year four in the School of Social Work. Academic standing and participation in university or community affairs will be considered.
