Bursaries
- Students may be considered for the following bursaries by completing the general bursary application. Only one application is necessary to be considered for all bursaries.
JOHN CARLING FRASER MEMORIAL BURSARY
Value: Varies | Number: Varies
Two or more bursaries with a total value of $5000 are awarded to 3rd or 4th year students in the Faculty of Science who have declared a major in Biology, Biochemistry or Microbiology. Preference will be given to students who are active in student politics and/or volunteer work with youth groups in the community, especially Scouts Canada.

Scholarships, Medals and Prizes

Applications are required for In-Course Scholarships listed in this section. The deadline, unless stated otherwise is May 31st.
These scholarships are governed by the general regulations for scholarships, medals and prizes.Scholarships marked with an asterisk (*) are administered by the University of Victoria Foundation.
* JOHN CARLING FRASER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS
Two scholarships of $2500 each are awarded to 3rd or 4th year students in the Faculty of Science, with a declared major in Biology, Microbiology or Biochemistry. Preference will be given to students who are active in student politics and/or volunteer work with youth groups in the community, especially Scouts Canada. Students should submit a letter or resume as part of their application in which they describe their contributions to such volunteer/youth organizations. The following scholarships require that students apply directly to the Faculty of Science
*BOB WRIGHT SCHOLARSHIPS
One or more scholarships are awarded to outstanding undergraduate students in the Faculty of Science who have demonstrated an interest in oceansthrough course work, co-op experience or work experience.
* NORAH AND CALVIN BANKS ABORIGINAL LEADERSHIP AWARD IN THE SCIENCES
One or more awards are given to undergraduate or graduate Aboriginal students in the Faculty of Science, Faculty of Engineering or School of Environmental Studies who demonstrate leadership by encouraging and/or promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields of study in Aboriginal communities. Applications may be obtained from the Office of Indigenous Affairs and must be submitted to that office by April 15th together with reference letters from Aboriginal Community leaders outlining how they demonstrate leadership. Selection of the recipients will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards or the Graduate Admissions and Awards Committee upon the recommendation of the Director of the Office of Indigenous Affairs in consultation with the Dean of the Faculty of Science, and the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and the Director of the School of Environmental Studies.

Applications from students are NOT required for scholarships listed in this section.
Unless otherwise indicated recipients are selected by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendations of the Biology department.

* HARPER SCHOLARSHIP
One or more scholarships are awarded to academically outstanding undergraduate students in a Major or Honours program in Science with a strong preference for students with a demonstrated commitment to Marine Biology.
* B.W. PEARSE SCIENCE SCHOLARSHIP
Four scholarships are awarded to third or fourth year students in an Honours or Majors program in the Departments of Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Statistics and Physics and Astronomy.
SEASPAN INTERNATIONAL LTD. SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship of $500 is awarded to the student leading courses numbered 200 in any two of the following departments: Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Mathematics, Physics. The winner must continue academic work at an approved university.
SMONEC NATURAL SCIENCES SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship is awarded to an academically outstanding undergraduate student in the Faculty of Science. Preference will be given to a First Nations Status or Non-status student. In the event that no First Nations Status or Non-status student is eligible, the award will be given to an Inuit or Métis student. Students may receive this award more than once.
