Bursaries

  • Students may be considered for the following bursaries by completing the general bursary application. Only one application is necessary to be considered for all bursaries.

Scholarships, Medals and Prizes

Entrance

  • Requires Entrance Scholarship Application

 

There are no Entrance Scholarships specific to Philosophy

 

 

In-Course

  • Requires In Course Scholarship Application

 

There are no Philosophy scholarships that require In-course application

 

 

  • The following scholarships require application directly to the Philosophy department; review the eligibility requirements and application instructions before applying.

 

* JIM & JUNE YOUNG MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

One or more scholarships are awarded to undergraduate or graduate students in the Department of Philosophy. Applications together with a letter outlining the students’ involvement with social democracy and/or industrial democracy must be submitted to the Chair of the Department by March 15th. In the case of an undergraduate student, selection will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the Department of Philosophy. In the case of a graduate student, selection will be made by the Graduate Admissions and Awards Committee upon the recommendation of the Department of Philosophy.

 

 

  • In-Course Scholarship - No Application Required

 

Applications from students are NOT required for scholarships listed in this section.

Unless otherwise indicated, recipients are selected by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendations of the Department of Philosophy.

These scholarships are governed by the general regulations for scholarships, medals and prizes.

Scholarships marked with an asterisk (*) are administered by the University of Victoria Foundation.

 

* THE JOHN A. FARVOLDEN BOOK PRIZE IN ETHICS

A book prize is awarded to the student who achieves the highest standing in Philosophy 335: Moral Philosophy.

 

* THE DAVID KAPLAN BOOK PRIZE IN HONOURS PHILOSOPHY

Awarded to the student graduating in Honours Philosophy with the highest standing in those philosophy courses required for the Degree.

 

* ANNA BERTHA AND FRANK KLUGE SCHOLARSHIP

A scholarship is awarded to a student with the highest standing entering fourth year of an honours program in the Department of Philosophy.
