Bursaries

  • Students may be considered for the following bursaries by completing the general bursary application. Only one application is necessary to be considered for all bursaries.

 

British Columbia Lung Association - Christmas Seal Society Bursary

Value: $1000 | Number: One

A bursary of $1000 will be awarded annually by the British Columbia Lung Association-Christmas Seal Society to a needy student entering the final year in the Nursing program.

 

Margaret E. Ableson Bursary

Value: Varies | Number: Varies

One or more bursaries are awarded to students entering or continuing in either the Bachelor of Nursing program, or the Bachelor of Education program with a teaching concentration in Science and Environment Education. Normally, the bursary is awarded alternately between the two programs beginning with the Bachelor of Nursing program.

Dorothy Lucile Adams Bursary

Value: Varies | Number: Varies

A bursary is awarded to an undergraduate or graduate student in the School of Nursing. It is the wish of the School of Nursing that the first year of the award be given to an undergraduate student and the following year a graduate student alternating every year after that.

 

Kathleen Nora Comerford Memorial Bursary

Value: Varies | Number: Varies

A bursary is awarded to an undergraduate student who is continuing studies in the Nursing Program. Preference will be given to a student showing an interest in Public Health Nursing.

 

Eileen Lillian Cowling Memorial Bursary

Value: $1000 | Number: 1

A bursary of $1000 is awarded to a student in the School of Nursing who is pursuing a career in community nursing.

 

Loreen & Donald Dunklee Bursary

Value: Varies | Number: Varies

One or more bursaries are awarded to third or fourth year students in the School of Nursing.

 

The Muriel Ford Memorial Bursary*

Value: $1000 | Number: 1

A bursary of $1,000 is awarded to a student in the School of Nursing who is supporting dependent children and who is entering the final year of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. Preference will be given to a student interested in community nursing or health promotion.

 

Dorothy H. Neal Memorial Bursary

Value: Varies | Number: Varies

One or more bursaries are awarded to students entering fourth year of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.

 

Mary Lewis Richmond Bursary

Value: Varies | Number: Varies

One or more bursaries are awarded to students entering or continuing in the Bachelor of Nursing program.

 

The Royal Jubilee Hospital School of Nursing Bursary

Value: Varies | Number: Varies

One or more bursaries are awarded to undergraduate or graduate students in the School of Nursing. Preference will be given to former Royal Jubilee Hospital School of Nursing graduates, or their children or grandchildren. Distance education students who meet the above criteria are also eligible for these bursaries.

 

Coby Van Der Zeijst Memorial Bursary

Value: $1,000 | Number: 1

A bursary of $1000 is awarded to a 3rd or 4th year student in the School of Nursing.

 

Katharine Church Zuill Endowed Fund*

Value: Varies | Number: Varies

Bursaries are awarded to undergraduate students who are single mothers entering the School of Nursing. To receive bursary renewals, recipients must submit a bursary application and continue to demonstrate financial need.

 

Bursaries Requiring Separate Application

Entry bursaries are available to all eligible undergraduate full-time continuing students applying to continue to BSN degree completion at The University of Victoria from a Collaboratation for Academic Education in Nursing (CAEN) Program partner institute. This bursary may be applied for only once (upon admission to UVic). Please see the School of Nursing website for applications and deadlines.

 

Dorothy Kergin Bursaries are available to all eligible undergraduate full-time students currently enrolled in the School of Nursing at the University of Victoria. Students may apply for a Dorothy Kergin Bursary for each term of full-time study in the program. Please see the School of Nursing website for applications and deadlines.

Applications from students are NOT required for scholarships listed in this section.

Unless otherwise indicated, recipients are selected by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendations of the School of Nursing.

These scholarships are governed by the general regulations for scholarships, medals and prizes.

Scholarships marked with an asterisk (*) are administered by the University of Victoria Foundation.

 

CERTIFICATE OF OUTSTANDING ACADEMIC DISTINCTION IN THE FACULTY OF HUMAN AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT

A certificate of distinction and a prize of $300 is awarded to the student in the Faculty of Human and Social Development registered for the BA, BCYC, B.Sc, BSN or BSW degree who stands at the head of the graduating class on the basis of academic graduating average.

 

THE PETER AND LEELA M. BERTRAM SCHOLARSHIP

One or more scholarships are awarded to outstanding students in the Nursing program. Selection of the recipients will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the School of Nursing.

 

THORA DUNCAN SCHOLARSHIPS IN NURSING

Two scholarships of $2,500 each, and five scholarships of $1,000 each, are awarded to academically outstanding undergraduate students in the School of Nursing.

 

ergoCENTRIC SEATING SYSTEM SCHOLARSHIP

A scholarship of $1,000 is awarded to an academically outstanding undergraduate student in either the School of Health Information Science or the School of Nursing.

 

THE MARGARET A. EVANS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP IN NURSING

One or more scholarships are awarded to students entering the final year of Nursing at the University of Victoria, who have demonstrated both academic achievement and an interest in Gerontological Nursing.

 

THE ROBERT S. EVANS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarships are awarded to academically outstanding students who intend to continue their studies at the University of Victoria as follows:


a. One scholarship to a student in each of the programs: Child and Youth Care, Nursing and Social Work, on the recommendation of the respective Directors;


b. One scholarship to a student who has completed the qualifying 300-level courses for an Honours or Major program in Astronomy;


c. Two scholarships for award within the student body at large. If no suitable candidates can be found in categories (a) or (b), additional awards can be made in category (c).

 

THE ESTHER S. GARDOM SCHOLARSHIP

A scholarship of $850 is awarded by the Canadian Federation of University Women Victoria to an outstanding woman student proceeding to year 4 of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) program. Selection of the recipient will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the School of Nursing.

 

GLENN AND PAULINE GREENE SCHOLARSHIP IN NURSING

A scholarship is awarded to a student in the School of Nursing.

 

THE MRS. ANNIE GRESKIW SCHOLARSHIPS IN NURSING

Two scholarships of $1512 each are made annually to outstanding students proceeding to year 3 or 4 of the Nursing program. Selection of the recipients will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the School of Nursing.

 

ELSA GROUNDWATER SCHOLARSHIP

Two scholarships of $2,000 each are awarded to academically outstanding undergraduate students in the School of Nursing who are specializing in the operating room.

 

PACIFIC BLUE CROSS SCHOLARSHIPS

Two scholarships of $1,000 each are awarded to academically outstanding students in the School of Nursing who have transferred from a college in British Columbia.

 

EVA HANNAH PARLEE SCHOLARSHIP

One or more scholarships are awarded to academically outstanding undergraduate students in the School of Nursing.  Preference will be given to students with an interest in Geriatric nursing.

 

PURVES SISTERS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

One or more scholarships are awarded to students in the School of Nursing with an interest in specializing in children's diseases and the treatment of children's diseases. Selection of the recipients will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the School of Nursing

 

THE MARION RICKER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP IN NURSING

Two scholarships of $550 each are awarded annually to students who have completed the first year of the program with good grades and who have demonstrated potential to provide leadership within a professional role. Selection of the recipients will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the School of Nursing.

 

THE GERTRUDE HELEN ROBERTSON SCHOLARSHIPS

One or more scholarships are awarded to students registered in the School of Nursing who intend to pursue a career in Nursing Administration or Maternal and Child Care. Selection of the recipients will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the School of Nursing.

 

JULIA ALICE SADDINGTON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

A scholarship of $675 is awarded to a student entering the final year of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program who demonstrates an interest in and an aptitude for community health nursing and who intends to pursue a career in community health nursing. Selection will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendation of the School of Nursing.

 

ELSA STEPHENS SCHOLARSHIP IN NURSING

A scholarship is awarded to an academically outstanding undergraduate student in the School of Nursing.  Preference will be given to a student who is contributing to the community.

 

GRACE WEBSTER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

A scholarship of $2000 is awarded to a student studying at the Victoria Campus entering the final year of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. Preference is given to a student specializing in operating room, recovery room, or surgical nursing.
