Bursaries

 

  • Students may be considered for the following bursaries by completing the general bursary application. Only one application is necessary to be considered for all bursaries.

 

BC Medical Services Foundation Health Sciences Bursary

Value: Varies | Number: Varies

One or more bursaries are awarded to undergraduate students in the Health Sciences at the University of Victoria. This includes the areas of Health Information Science, Nursing, Psychology, Sociology, Child & Youth Care.

 

James Coward Award

Value: Varies | Number: 1

An award is given to a student in the School of Health Information Science to assist with expenses associated with participating in a Co-op work term. Preference will be given to a student taking an international work term. Applications and further information can be obtained from the School of Health Information Science.

 

Dr. Ken and Barbara Thornton Memorial Award

Value: Varies | Number 1

An award is given to a student enrolled in the School of Health Information Science who has been a full-time resident of British Columbia for the preceeding two years. Applications and further information can be obtained from the School of Health Information Science and must be returned by June 30th.

 

Scholarships, Medals and Prizes

 

Entrance

 

  • Entrance Scholarship - No Application Required

 

DR. MOWAFA HOUSEH ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP

A scholarship of $250 is awarded to an academically outstanding undergraduate student entering the School of Health Information Science from a British Columbia secondary school or college. Preference will be given to a student from the District of Northern British Columbia.

STEVEN A. HUESING MEMORIAL ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP*

One or more scholarships of at least $2,000 are awarded to academically outstanding undergraduate students entering the School of Health Information Science.

 

In-Course

 

  • The following award(s) require students to apply directly to the Department of Health Informaiton Science; reveiw the eligibility requirements and applicaiton instructions before applying.

 

MICHAEL MILLER SCHOLARSHIP


A scholarship is awarded to a graduate student or an undergraduate student entering 3rd or 4th year in the School of Health Information Science. The application process includes the submission of a short essay on manic depression (bipolar disorder). Application forms may be obtained in the School of Health Information Science. Completed forms must be submitted to the School of Health Information Science by June 30. Selection of the recipient will be made upon the recommendation of the School of Health Information Science.

 

 

  • In-Course Scholarship - No Application Required

 

Applications from students are NOT required for scholarships listed in this section.

Unless otherwise indicated, recipients are selected by the Senate Committee on Awards upon the recommendations of the School of Health Information Science.

These scholarships are governed by the general regulations for scholarships, medals and prizes.

Scholarships marked with an asterisk (*) are administered by the University of Victoria Foundation.

 

ergoCENTRIC SEATING SYSTEM SCHOLARSHIP

A scholarship of $1,000 is awarded to an academically outstanding undergraduate student in either the School of Health Information Science or the School of Nursing.

 

* THE MRS. ANNIE GRESKIW SCHOLARSHIP IN HEALTH INFORMATION SCIENCE

Two scholarships of $1500 each are awarded to outstanding students proceeding to year 3 or 4 of the Health Information Science Program.

 

*STEVEN A. HUESING MEMORIAL ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP

One or more scholarships of at least $2,000 are awarded to academically outstanding undergraduate students entering the School of Health Information Science.

 

ICBC SCHOLARSHIP IN HEALTH INFORMATION SCIENCE

A scholarship of $5000 is awarded to a student entering the third or fourth year in the Health Information Science program, who has attained a high academic standing and has been a full-time resident of British Columbia for at least the preceding four years.
