General Bursary Information

About UVic Bursaries

  • The University of Victoria awards over 4 million dollars in Entrance, Transfer and In-Course Bursaries.

  • Bursaries are non-repayable awards based on financial need and reasonable academic standing.

  • Bursaries are for students who are receiving the maximum student loans available for their period of study and are Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada.

  • A limited amount of bursaries are available for international graduate students, however there are currently no bursaries for international undergraduate students. See International Student Resources

  • To be eligible for bursaries undergraduate students must be registered in a minimum of 4.5 units each term of the bursary period, and students with a permanent disability must be registered in a minimum of 3.0 units. Graduate students must meet the definition of full time status as determined by the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

  • Only one application per session is necessary to be considered for all bursaries that are administered by Student Awards and Financial Aid. A student who has completed the Online General Bursary Application will be considered for all applicable awards.

  • There are some exceptional bursaries requiring a separate application which is available directly from the appropriate Athletic Coach, Faculty, School or Department. To learn about these exceptional bursaries visit the List of Scholarships and Bursaries

When To Apply For Bursaries

  • There are two opportunities to apply for the general bursary each year. The deadlines to apply are June 1 for the Summer Session (May to August) and October 15 for the Winter Session (September to April)

  • If you apply for a summer UVic Bursary by the June 1st deadline, decisions on these awards will be made in July. Successful applicants will receive a Notice of Award via email.

  • If you apply for a winter UVic Bursary by the October 15th deadline, decisions on these awards will be made by the end of January. Successful applicants will receive a Notice of Award via email.

  • Unsuccessful applicants will not be notified.

  • Incomplete bursary applications will not be considered; applicants must be sure to submit all required supporting documents that apply to them, which may include a copy of their Notice of Assessment from their government loan provider, and/or a complete budget sheet.

  • Bursary funds are deposited directly into student tuition accounts, and are applied first to any outstanding tuition, fees or other monies owed to the university. To access the remaining funds, students need to visit accounting and request a cheque.

  • Award amounts are subject to change until Notice of Award emails are sent.
